Sam Dennis

Doctor Samantha Dennis is a highly respected archaeologist, but her alter ego, Sam Dennis, is a passionate basket maker. She learned at the feet of Jimmy Work of Scousburgh,and extended her skill with the help of the Heritage Craft Association. The making of Shetland coiled straw baskets is on the Red List of Critically Endangered Crafts, and the beautiful and vibrant black oats that she uses are also critically endangered. Sam is doing everything in her power to encourage the growing of black oats, and each unique basket that she creates helps preserve a Shetland heritage skill.
