Jayne Stokes

Jayne has a first class honours degree in drawing and painting from Edinburgh College of Art, and an MA in Fine Art from the Winchester School of Art in Barcelona. Since then, she has become an award-winning artist, with her most recent awards being the An Talla Solais prize at the Royal Scottish Academy annual exhibition, and she was shortlisted for the Scottish Landscape Prize 2025. Although she lives in North Berwick, she is a frequent visitor to Shetland and did an artist's residency in Scalloway last year. Although she is a classic landscape painter, she has produced some extraordinary Shetland miniatures for us.They are particularly extraordinary because they are painted in matchboxes. The quality of her painting in these small spaces is incredible and it is a joy to hear the exclamations of astonishment when visitors to the gallery discover her work.
