Judith Arthur

Judith was born in Shetland and has lived all her life on the island of Yell.  She is a real traditional Shetland knitter, having learned, literally at her mother's knee, at the age of four years. She recalls her Granny buying her a knitting belt when she was eight, which she still uses occasionally today. The knitting teacher at Mid Yell school tried to teach her how to use a knitting machine, but Judith insisted on knitting by hand and started knitting traditional Shetland lace as a teenager.
